A Rare Pattern of Brachial Artery Variation: Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Jacomo,A. L; Martinez,C. A. R; Saleh,S. O; Andrade,M; Akamatsu,F. E..
Unlike the venous system, variations in arterial anatomy are less frequent and most of them affect visceral arteries. In limbs, variations of the brachial artery are the most reported and at least six different patterns have been described so far. The commonest is the superficial brachial artery which lies superficially to the median nerve. Much less prevalent are the high origin of the radial artery (brachioradial artery) or the existence of a doubled brachial artery (accessory brachial artery). We present a previously undescribed pattern of brachial artery variation. During dissection of the right upper limb of a 60 year-old male embalmed cadaver, we found the bifurcation of the brachial artery in the proximal portion of the middle third of the arm. Its...

Contemporary Staining of Arterial System with Cadaver Fixation: An Experimental Study International Journal of Morphology
Ghorbani,Rostam; Tavakol,Zahra; Ghanbari,Ali.
Although many methods are investigated, cadavers have unique role for education of gross anatomy. This study was performed to make cadaveric based gross anatomy more enjoyable and decrease the time needed for achievement of arterial system for teachers and learners. The adult rabbits in control (n=3) and experimental groups (n=9) sacrificed following deep anesthesia. The samples were fixed by injection of fixative solution to the left ventricle and the corps dropped to the traditional fixative liquid for at least 1 month. The injected fixative solution of experimental group contained stained human red blood cells. The red blood cells stained by eosin (0.25% in saline) for 30 minutes and injected between two injections of fixative. After passing the period...

Demonstration of Intramuscular Artery and Nerve Distribution in the Same Whole Mount Gracilis Muscle by Different Colors International Journal of Morphology
An,Xiaochun; Dong,Pengfei; Qu,Xiangyang; Li,Shanhui.
The goal of this study was to describe the intramuscular artery and nerve distribution in detail by different colors in the same whole mount gracilis muscle. Red latex injection into the external iliac artery was performed on 14 fresh human cadavers. Two weeks later, 28 gracilis muscles were harvested from the cadavers and during this course the number of the arterial pedicle of each specimen was counted. Then, the muscle specimens were fixed in 10 % formalin 4 weeks for fixation and Sihler's staining procedures was performed on each muscle specimens. After all of the procedures, the gracilis muscle appeared almost transparent, and the extra- and intramuscular artery and nerve branches, even the terminals, were clearly demonstrated in red and dark blue...

Hypotrophy of conduit artery walls of the offspring of nitric oxide-defective rats BJMBR
Kristek,F.; Gerová,M..
The objective of the present study was to investigate the structure of the arterial walls of the offspring stemming from nitric oxide (NO)-defective hypertensive parents. The parents were treated with N G-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (40 mg kg-1 day-1) for 5 weeks. Blood pressure was measured noninvasively in six 30-day-old rats and nine age-matched controls. The cardiovascular system was perfused with glutaraldehyde at 120 mmHg. The thoracic aorta and carotid artery were processed for electron microscopy, and geometry was determined by light microscopy. Endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and extracellular matrix (ECM) were determined by the point counting method in electron micrographs of the carotid artery. The blood pressure of experimental...

Multiple Vascular Anomalies in the Abdomen: A Gross Anatomical Study International Journal of Morphology
Jacob,Tony; Modgil,Vishal; Rana,Kum Kum; Das,Srijit.
Knowledge of the branching pattern of the abdominal aorta is clinically important for any abdominal surgeon operating on parts of the gut or neighboring structures like the suprarenals, spleen, pancreas, liver, kidneys and uréter. The presence of abnormal inferior phrenic artery associated with aberrant branch from the celiac trunk supplying the pancreas and duodenum is a rare anomaly. In the present case, we observed four branches of the celiac artery i.e. (a) left gastric artery (b) common hepatic artery (c) splenic artery and (d) an aberrant branch, which took a course inferiorly towards the pancreas. The aberrant artery supplied the body of the pancreas and gave a branch which supplied the horizontal part of the duodenum and then entered the transverse...

Structure and Histophysiological Considerations on the Arterial Wall of the Dog International Journal of Morphology
Orsi,Antonio M; Domeniconi,Raquel F; Mello,Josiane M. de; Spilla,Caio S. G.
This paper described the architecture of the dog aortic arterial wall focused in the ascendant; thoracic descendent, and abdominal parts of the aorta. Furthermore, in this study we analyzed the wall structure of the right external iliac artery and the left vertebral artery of dog aiming to compare their architectural patterns with the aortic wall mainly in abdominal aortic part, which was structured by a mixed muscular and connective matrix equilibrated elements. The variables analyzed were the thickness of each mural layer; the number of elastic lamellae, mainly localized into the medial layer structure, and the diameters of each aortic segment. The aortic structure showed a typical elastic pattern in the ascendant and descendant thoracic parts, but in...

Variations in the Branching Pattern of the Celiac Trunk in a Kenyan Population International Journal of Morphology
Mburu,Kimani Stephen; Alexander,Ogeng'o Julius; Hassan,Saidi; Bernard,Ndung'u.
The celiac trunk is the major source of blood supply to the supracolic abdominal compartment. Usually, it branches into the splenic, common hepatic and left gastric arteries to supply this region. It has however been shown to display ethnic variations in its branching pattern. Knowledge of these variations may be important in surgical and radiological procedures around the head of the pancreas. The aim was to illustrate the commonest variations in the branching pattern of the celiac trunk in a Kenyan population. The study was conducted in the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Nairobi. Were collected one hundred twenty three (123) bodies obtained from dissection cadavers and autopsy cases following ethical approval and consent from next of kin....

Vascularization of the small intestine in lesser anteaters, Tamandua tetradactyla (Xenarthra: Myrmecophagidae) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Ferreira,Jussara R; Souza,Ana Lúcia R; Mortoza,Amanda R; Rezende,Lorenna C.
The blood supply in the small intestine of seven Tamandua tetradactyla (Linnaeus, 1758), was studied. The method included preparation of the macroscopic collection report, perfusion of the arterial network with water (40ºC), injection of colored latex (Neoprene 650®, 2350-0003 Suvinil® dye), fixation in formaldehyde (10%), and preservation in ethanol (50%). For description and analyzes, dissection under mesoscopic light and photo documentation were performed. The small intestine of T. tetradactyla is irrigated by the cranial mesenteric artery, the ventral visceral branch of the abdominal aorta. The artery emerges from the retroperitoneum and disperses between the layers of the common mesentery, parallel to the caudal mesenteric artery. The primary cranial...
